Camping at Last

The sky is clear and all is well.
Everyone sleeps so well, that no one is even bothered by Grandma's snoring.

The dieing fire light is so cozy. Sally is curled up on Jeffrey's fleece bag.

As the fire dies down, everyone gets ready to turn in.

Jeffrey settles in with Uncle John.

Marie and Noah enjoy the fire light.

and night falls quickly.

Georgie is snuggled into his cradle in the camper,

So Sally makes the rounds, scanning for edibles.

No luck here for crusts or hot dogs.

Dad reads the paper in the fading light.

Marie feels so relaxed in the open air after a fire-roasted supper.

Food cooked outdoors is fantastic. Everyone eats a lot.
Grandma cleans up and washes the dishes in a big bowl.

Marie gets food and dishes out, and starts shucking the roasting corn.

Grandpa gets the big kettle on, for herb tea and hot cocoa.

Jeffrey and Bridgett are excited about the camp fire. It's the best part of camping.

The big kids and Sally have the tent. Mom smooths out their sleeping bags.

Dad stretches after the long drive, and Mom goes to help Grandpa unpack.

Grandpa starts the work of setting up camp.

The rabbits run off and hide in the woods.

She gets Sally's collar, and Jeffrey tries to climb up to the rabbits.

Bridgett runs after Sally.

She runs to the big rock, barking.

Sally sees them too, and jumps out the window with a big WOOF.

Jeffrey sees rabbits in the woods!

The new site is even better than the other one.
The sun is low when they arrive.

Bridgett and Sally have the best seats.

Everyone is belted for the trip.

They'll meet at the camp site.
Noah gives John directions to the park.

The following Saturday, the Smalls are packed and ready.
They're not really early birds.
