Waking up in the Woods: Camping Adventures

Ratter is one happy cat.
His people are home.

Grandma's shoulders are a little stiff from paddling.
Jen's shoulders feel great.

Poor Grandpa has been up since 5:00.
Even Tofu can't wake him up.
Grandpa is dreaming of laundry, laundry, and more laundry.

They snack on popcorn and fruit while they work.
Sally has eyes for only one thing.

Jeffrey and Bridgett play outside until dusk.

Everyone is sooty,smokey, and ready
for a hot bath and a good night's sleep.

Unpacking is the worst part of camping.

HOME AGAIN
*************************************************

They help with the last of the loading.
Everyone is quiet for a second as they say goodbye.

The sun is low. They are the last ones to get back to camp.

The baby rabbit is looking right at them.

When they get near the big rock, they see the rabbits!

Going down, they hold hands on the steep hill.

The view is beautiful.

Marie feeds Georgie.
They share the last can of mineral water.

Jen is so happy to have such a good friend.

At the top, they have lunch. Marie gives Jen a back rub.
Georgie is even heavier than her big mail bags.

They sip from a big bottle of lemonade.
Marie has snacks.

It's hot, even in the woods. They take off Georgie's blanket
and decide to stop for a drink.

At the top of the big rock they look for the rabbits.
There is no sign of them.

Jen and Marie are so happy about having a hike together.
They feel like they are sisters.

THE BIG HIKE

**************************************************

They paddle for awhile, and then head back.

They can see the family on the other side of the pond fishing.
They look like little ants.

It is so hot. Jeffrey wants to jump in the water.

Grandma sees them, too. There are three babies.

Before Grandma even launches, Jeffrey sees loons. They are really close.

THE KAYAKING TRIP

He hooks one but it gets away. No luck for Grandpa.

Grandpa fishes while everyone has lunch. They pass him a sandwich.

Bridgett sits with Sasha and holds her.
It is so hot out, and the blanket is wet and cool.

Grandpa takes a turn.

Grandpa laughs the hardest. He needs
to go and see a man about a horse.

The moss is slippery and Bridgett falls into the bog.
It is soft and squishy. Dad jumps up to help, and he is laughing, too.

Bridgett feels a tug on her pole. She jumps up and starts to laugh.

Sally wants to help, too. She is a bother.
She barks at the fishing pole.

He sits by her and helps.

Dad thinks this spot is good. He helps Bridgett get set up.

THE FISHING EXPEDITION
***************************************************************

They are both physically fit; they're going all the way to the top.

Marie and Jen hike.
Aunt Jen carries Georgie and Marie carries the lunch and binoculars.
They hope to see the rabbits.

Grandma and Jeffrey choose kayaking.
Jen looks for the small life jacket.

Dad, Grandpa and Bridgett decide to fish.
Grandpa has Sasha in the backpack. They inherit Sally.

At breakfast, the plans are hatching.

Bridgett can't believe her eyes. Cookies for breakfast.

Grandpa is the only early bird in the bunch.
He gets the kettle hot and sets out a brunch buffet.

  1. Bug dope? Organic? All I can think is how this little naked baby is getting eaten alive in the woods.
